LAMINOIR

Laminoir is a sculpture of a traveller treated in a burlesque manner. Bruno Catalano's work is imbued with self-mockery, farce and theatricality. Here, the sculptor plays with the codes of representation, making fun of his own stylistic markers in order to better subvert them: he replaces the character's head with a suitcase, the emblem of his work. What's more, the character seems to have been put through the mill, i.e. to have lived through difficult times. Behind this game lie deeper realities and issues related to the brutality of existence.
